Two magnet fishers in Georgia have been arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of explosives after they discovered a bag full of military equipment and active rockets in a river.

The men, identified as Jason Vanderwall and Brent Underwood, were magnet fishing in the Apalachicola River on February 25th when they discovered the submerged bag. Inside, they found a Delta Airlines duffel bag containing 86 rockets, 200 rounds of ammunition, and a pistol.

Vanderwall, who has a prior felony conviction, told authorities that they thought the bag contained scrap metal and did not realize it contained weapons. Underwood, who does not have a criminal record, said he was not aware of the contents of the bag.

The men have been released on bond pending trial. If convicted, they could face up to 20 years in prison.
