Pilot, Passenger of Small Plane OK After Crash Near Schaumburg Regional Airport

What Happened?

According to the Schaumburg Fire Department, a small plane crashed just north of Schaumburg Regional Airport on Monday afternoon. The pilot and the passenger on board were able to get out of the plane and were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Investigation

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the cause of the crash. The plane was a single-engine Cessna 172, which is a popular type of small aircraft.

The FAA said the plane took off from Schaumburg Regional Airport at around 12:30 p.m. and crashed a short time later in a field near the airport.

The FAA said it is too early to say what caused the crash, but it will be looking at all possible factors, including the weather, the plane's maintenance record, and the pilot's experience.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is also investigating the crash. The NTSB is an independent federal agency that investigates transportation accidents.

The Aftermath

The crash closed Schaumburg Regional Airport for several hours, but the airport has since reopened.

The FAA said it will release more information about the crash as it becomes available.
