Chinese driver penalised for impeding in qualifying

Zhou Guanyu will start the Azerbaijan Grand Prix from the back of the grid after being penalised for impeding during qualifying.

The Alfa Romeo driver was adjudged to have blocked Fernando Alonso during Q1, and as a result, he has been handed a three-place grid penalty, which will drop him to 20th on the grid.

It is a disappointing result for Zhou, who had been hoping to build on his impressive performance in Monaco, where he finished 10th.

However, he will now have to start from the back of the grid, which will make it difficult for him to score points.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is notoriously difficult to overtake on, so Zhou will need to make a good start if he wants to have any chance of making progress through the field.

The race will be held on Sunday, June 12, and will be the eighth round of the 2022 Formula 1 season.
