The mother of John Barnett, a former Boeing quality manager-turned-whistleblower who died earlier this month, says she doesn't believe her son's death was a suicide. Barnett, who had raised concerns about the safety of Boeing's planes, was found dead during a break in depositions against the company.
In a statement, Boeing said it was "deeply saddened" by Barnett's death and that the company is "cooperating fully with the investigation." However, Barnett's family and friends say they have serious doubts about the official explanation of his death.
"John was a good man who loved his job and his family," said his mother, Mary Barnett. "He would never have taken his own life."
Barnett's death comes at a time when Boeing is facing intense scrutiny over the safety of its planes. The company's 737 MAX aircraft have been grounded since March of 2019 following two fatal crashes that killed 346 people.
The investigation into Barnett's death is ongoing. However, his family and friends say they will not rest until they get answers about what really happened.
